Second Song - Infiltration & Bossfight

  • Dec. 5th, 2008 at 11:55 PM
I <3 SB!

This is my second melodic attempt. I hope it spurs some visuals in your mind. The name basically sets the scene for what I'm trying to accomplish. As with any video game esque music it breaks off near the end into something a little off from the rest because most people assume the situation you are in where music is involved will be over before the track is ;).

My next track I hope will be a clash of soft tones and hard tones as if to be battling one another across the hellscape of post apocalyptic Earth. Oh yes...good times :).

The Flood

  • Dec. 3rd, 2008 at 5:48 PM
I <3 SB!

This is my first try at anything that is even close to being called 'Music'. Consider this an alpha as I would like to update it (I've noticed on export its a bit loud in the beginning over what I heard while doing it).

If the software this was made with was paying me I'd publish their name, but I'm poor and they aren't being friendly with advertising dollars so they get nothing. No free rides! :P

Update: I figured out why its louder. In the editor I had the volume set to 75% so theoretically if you set YOURS to 75% you'll hear what I basically intended :).

http://islesofscion.net/TheFlood.wav

Enjoy :). I'll keep trying this stuff and hopefully it'll inspire me to be more creative once again.

For whom the bell tolls.

For whom the bell tolls.

Do you know the reaction I get from students when I bring up that you require 180 credits to graduate? “Say what?!” There is a moment of surprise that disturbs me; this same sort of surprise comes from discussing a student’s own major with them. We seem to be at a disconnect that I feel is rampant across so many factors in education.

I find it incredibly difficult to be responsible for all factors of my education when the very major I was shooting for hasn’t updated the checklist for their major in 3 years yet provides it as a resource for 2008-2009 (almost 4). Likewise it’s difficult to feel that I’m a wanted member of this school when all my interactions with folks from the registrar or similar services have been something out of reservoir dogs.

College is a business, as much as I wish it was not. Like nearly any other business in the last decade the quality has dropped...noticeably. I’ve not come across more than a handful of people who have argued against me. On the contrary I’ve met quite a few students who have been treated nigh identical to me. It would appear to me that students have gone from the variable to the invariable. I feel more like a burden than anything else.

I have a strong connection emotionally with most of the professors here; these are absolutely and positively amazing people who have the grandest wealth of information. It’s the college that drives me insane, and the people behind the all the excuses I receive. “It’s out of my control blame the committee” or the very similar rephrases.

So this goes out to those for whom the bell tolls, that hourly reminder of our true college experience.

The Ultimate Assignment (In reference to "Last Eight Years improved veteran status". Near the end)

I would hate to be a student in a class with an assignment anything like the Iraq war. Our first issue is the premise of the assignment. You are to use physical means to eliminate a metaphysical conflict. You are going to attempt to brute force a belief. Because as we know throughout history this has always been a positive tool. Crucifixion, Crusades, Holocausts (There has been more than one), and the seemingly endless war in the Middle East. All of these are examples of just how effective and positive brute forcing a belief can be.

Second issue with this assignment. If the people you are presenting this assignment to do not agree with it, you will either be maimed or killed. I'm not quite sure I would stick with a course where the possible outcomes were succeed, physical deformation, mental disorders, or death. Even succeeding can lead to permanent life distress.

Third. Yes, I'm quite sure anyone on this campus would indeed not finish an assignment if they didn't agree with it. If one of my developmental psychology assignments was to go around sexually assaulting children in order to examine the negative results of child abuse I would most definitely not finish it. If my assignment was to explain ten positive things about beating pregnant women I would not be able to finish the assignment.

John F. Kennedy once said "Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind." We are the most violent country in the world (internally) and yet we invade other nations under the pretext of peace. It’s no surprise to me that the nation spending 48% of the entire world’s military budget is also the one that turns to murder to solve all its issues.

*Note: Unfortunately the article is not on the web. I will however transpose the last two paragraphs here (I nearly shit a brick when I read it...possible because I spent this weekend eating bricks):

"I might not agree with why we are there, but we are at war now, and we need to finish up what we are doing and accomplish our goals. You don't turn in a class assignment half done because you think the assignment is stupid do you? Lets finish up our assignment and encourage our government to hire more people so veterans can get their paperwork through the system to receive their benefits faster." - Valarie Lloyd

A Roller Coaster

I <3 SB!

It's weird this disconnect I have. My brain seems to run on like a roller coaster. It starts off easily enough as I chug along slowly, ideas filling this barrel that is my mind. It layers itself like a cake going up and up, until finally I crash. But not the crash after caffeine, not that serene weakness to help cope with the excess of energy. It's this flood of thoughts, this endless raging torrent of collective ideas. Astronomy, Politics, Education, Biology...everything that can relate does relate. Everything seems connected by no less than one point of separation in my mind. It's this drop on the coaster that annoys me the most. It never seems to end and as I pick up speed it just gets worse.

47 Weeks ago I posted on here.

47 Weeks later I had something interesting to note.

Has anyone ever noticed that no matter when you check livejournal you have the same basic posts? I have one guy showing random pictures, one person finally recovering from some great life event, at least one band with some awesome vid or pic, and a poem or prose.

It's refreshing to see I'm not the only one doing the same crap over and over.

Another day in tinsel town.

So I've decided what I'll do is this winter I'll take my car back to home and leave it there. Cancel my insurance and then all will be fine.

That way I won't have any revolving bills at college and I can stress a whole lot less about life.

Another fun side note, I got an email from a guy who has a group of people who want me to DM for them. We'll see if all my reading on how to be a DM between my first few tries and now will set me up to be a success.

I miss basically anyone getting this message, but hey that's life. You meet people and sometimes you are friends just out of circumstance. I wouldn't of changed one moment, I may of been annoying but it was damn worth it.

The one great thing about being in a dorm, my roommate thinks I'm the funniest thing since the whoopee cushion (in its day it was big...trust me). It's nice to make people laugh, I just never realized how big a group of comics I hung out with on a normal basis, when I'm around 'normal' people I apparently am hysterical.

To anyone who goes to Western, read the letters to the editor in the latest newspaper, I'm in it :).

How do you do today sir?

Well. I officially have a job now, training gone and done. I'm about to lay down but before I did I wanted to announce the fun set of plans I have for getting back on my feet.

I am going to see how much per 'serving' I get from donating blood/plasma. If the maximum of 200 dollars a month doesn't require massive amounts of puncture wounds, I will most likely be doing that. Then I'm looking at 600 dollars a month or so from jobs and donating blood.

This should get me out of my debt relatively quickly, especially if I cancel my car insurance like I plan to. I think I'm just going to park the damn Daewoo and rent a U-haul/car when I need to move things or visit family.

Just seems so wasteful to spend any sort of monthly fee on protection for a situation I almost never find myself in. We'll see :).

The Decemberists have such enchanting a tone.

A few years back Ivy Blinco brought up a good point. "You are my brother's best friend and you don't even know his phone number!"

So true...never really thought about that. Makes me wonder just how handy I was to have around sometimes, always did feel like the spare tire in the automobile that was my group of friends. I saw Sam a week or so ago turning left at the intersection by Circuit City. He had that same gloomy look I always used to see on his face...kind of unfortunate.

It was originally written by me about private servers in ragnarok, but it applies to everyday life.

---

There are 5 major kinds of people...roughly. Lots of subtypes, but let me dig into them.

The 1st kind is the level headed person. These people are incredibly rare, even though there are 10 types they are in no way even. You will find 1 of these people for every 10-100k people you meet. They may not be pleasant to talk to sometimes, but they will never be the one to get you killed. They are efficient, and if they made up the majority we'd live in a world without any real issues (since they'd just kill off the other 4 kinds of people that wouldn't convert away from stupidity).

The 2nd kind is the religious idiot. These are people who think the world is small, and that life is an incredibly boring bland place that is merely setting them up for the afterlife. They do nothing for the environment, they create failed governments, have no real life desires (in majority) and overall stop all forms of progress in any positive scientific realm. They seem harmless, but are probably one of the deadliest and most widely mixed forms of stupid. They are readily found in 4 of the 5 realms of people. Rarely if ever are they found in the 1st kind.

The 3rd kind is a painful idiot. These people do and say things that make your head or body hurt in some way, shape, or form. These are the same jackasses driving muscle cars and smoking cigarettes because they think it is cool. Generally sport hunters are in this group, and the majority of server owners are here as well. These people have incredibly shallow goals and mental functions, they will try their best to sleaze their way into any job that has power...even if it doesn't pay. It helps give them a reason to live, because honestly they have no reason to.

The 4th kind of idiot is the apathidiot. These people do nothing about any issue that does not directly affect them. Usually called American, it is an unfair assumption considering the majority of countries do nothing about their failed infrastructure. Generally these people tie into the 2nd kind of person because they believe the failure of mankind to be manly or kind is simply the act of the devil or of god testing them before their ascension to heaven...oh and that kind of hits the 3rd kind doesn't it wink.gif.

The 5th kind of idiot is the 'complete idiot'. These people only survive because other people keep them alive. They drink draino because they think it'll clear their throats, they enhale spray paint fumes, they stop chainsaws with their genitals, they sue the owners of a house that they are breaking into because they hurt themselves during the break in. These people take up the majority of all funds in any nation. They are found in your prisons, in your wellfare states, in many other avenues. These people destroyed the internet, and will inevitably be the final nail in the coffin of humankind. The complete idiot is more dangerous than any form of disease, and are probably the one reason that war is not such a bad thing. Because considering how socially useless they are, sending them to die is probably the best use of their matter.

There are probably a thousand subtypes of these people, The sad part is that that roughly 1% of the entire world population fall into the top section. Maybe higher, but I am certain that it is lesser than 10%.

Anyways, that's why idiots run servers. It's not because servers and the internet attracts them, its that they simply comprise the majority of humans. If 90% of people had aids, it wouldn't be the gym that attracted aids ridden people it would simply be the fact that nearly everyone had it.

Well. I'm alive and happy. Sorry about being a prick to anyone in high school. I don't know if anyone hates me, and if you do, my bad. Regardless its a little childish to hold onto something that long.

Take a step back and reassess your priorities, life is filled with lots of seemingly tough questions. The only truth is that they are forcefully given nothing but tough answers, no question is inherently difficult to deal with.

So smile, if you haven't done so in a while. Remind yourself that life is just a series of paintings, you create something you feel is unique only to find out that your art style was influenced by the more popular artists of the time or of a time you wish you lived in. Don't ever feel something should live with you if you don't want it to, those emotions are best left with the weaker people.

Laughing itself, even internally, is the best expulsion of energy. Our life is insignificantly short in the larger picture, and thusly we should do our hardest to enjoy it, because without joy there is no reason to be alive. No reason at all.

Oh and take a look at my desktop :). This is already out of date, but it gives you an idea of what I work with .

PS. If anyone hates me, make me a post, I'm just curious on how big of a list I have. Don't be shy, I have no hard feelings nor will I.

The funniest part of that is I totally misread the file itself. I deleted it before this infringement was even sent (quite a while before). Who the fuck downloads click anyways? Just thought it was kind of funny, well will be if I don't end up getting sued or something :P. If I do, that company will never see a dime out of me again for their movies. Considering that I can legally watch a copy of this I'd love for them to justify the suit. (We have the movie open boxed at work, I can watch it with me and about 300 people in a day).

So in short, I almost lose my comcast because of an unfinished rar compilation on my computer :P. And not even the one I wanted, the sick irony (I think).

Isn't it wierd how our brains work? The whole pattern recognition system, once you have that initial foundation it is almost impossible to change it. When you find something in an idea that you can center yourself around, you begin to relate everything in the world to it. Every argument, every action, every dream and desire begins to find itself sewn to your initial foundation. We are more likely to change our actions to support our idea, than we are to change our idea to support our actions.

People kill, people rape, people gamble. Regardless of the ferocity we find in the acts, they still relate it to that initial foundation. For some it is an act of predatory or bestial nature, for others it is a sign that the devil has slipt into your mind, and for others still its a matter of mental instability. Once we have those bricks to our home, we are almost not willing to ever move. We will not change our home as it is our only safety. The only known that we hold true lies within its doors, that fear of unknown that intense fear of frailty. Death is the greatest unknown we can find and with it the greatest instigator of our foundations. Our homes are being built upon thin rods of cedar instead of a foundation of stone and mortar.

The homes looks sturdy from the outside, but within it is an accident waiting to happen. Be it a flood, a fire, or even a minor earthquake. Some act of destruction will cause the foundation to crack. The ideas and dreams within it begin to mingle and conflict, and many find themselves looking for the culprit. It is never the builder of the home, but the neighbors that are at fault. These villians with their mobile homes and their brick and mortar frames their logical construction and proper use of building codes. These are the villians indeed that cause this home to fall and for its owner to find themselves homeless.

What are these disasters in real life? Famine, Poverty, Intense Abuse, Drugs, and even Chemical Imbalances within our own bodies. These in addition to our shotty foundations leave us in a dangerous state. This state is supported by many but over and over again through time intense damage is caused when it falls. Fear and Faith mingle to create the ultimate power, an unquestioning army with the knowledge that their enemy is all that stands between them and keeping this home they fought so hard to build.

Be yee witches or slaves, be yee hebrew or athiest, you are the termite that lies in the wood. You are the one rocking this home and with it placing yourself in harms way. When the carpenters come to rebuild, you will be the first thing exterminated. As have those like you in the past.

That's my theory at least.

Sorry for my comma-demic. I'm addicted to poor punctuation.

I've come to a conclusion. If there truly is a god, then there is no possible way that their is a hell.

There is just no way that something so powerful and omnipotent as god would be so fickle as to sentance a being to an endless life in hell. There is no action, no event worthy of such a punishment. You could kill every person on this earth and it would not merit such a punishment, you would of course in turn sent them to a world of everlasting happiness. I fail to see how murder, theft, and other sinful acts of man can be considered acts of merit worthy of such a punishment.

To make such a rash judgement is strictly a human trait, we take what we do not understand and instead of deciphering such unknowns we simply eliminate them. The darkness turns to light with the flick of a switch, evil is snuffed out with the rush of a bullet or the rise of a flame. Our enemies are vanquished under the guise of justice. All these acts are human and human alone, they are weak and rash as is created by our mortality. The rise of immortality would bring on a new mindset. For really, to die is but an incalcuably small moment in the vast line that is our reality. Genocide and other 'haneous' acts of man are only available, or even fathomable, because of our warped society.

Famine, disease, and all these sadnesses we have are completely created by us. We live on the failed system of commercialism because we cannot even begin to imagine a world run any other way. Natives had a system that could of been utopic if improved just a bit, and were nearly wiped out because it was so extremely different from the one that had held ground in europe. Natives could not understand the concept of poor people, just as I know cannot understand the concept of eternal damnation.

If there is life after death, and if there is a god running the show. There is absolutely no way that the being could be so fickle as to punish any being, regardless of its genetic makeup or living acts. To think that people would believe such a thing only solidifies the fact that we are so easily persuaded, the fact that this idea has lasted so long dumbfounds me. If anyone is willing to take a stab at explaining it, you can. But to make the great creator of any faith send you to a 'jail' just because of your acts upon 'this world' is trivial. Trials are pathetic methods created by man, they are far to fickle and pointless to have any place in the mind of an omnipotent immortal.

Gah...the fact this never popped in my head before hurts.
